From 1st April 2005 new legislation came into force, which states that all new boilers must be condensing models. We install Vaillant products and are Vaillant approved installers of their SEDBUK 'A' rated boilers.

Vaillant are established industry leaders in the manufacture of boilers and we install the Vaillant ‘eco TEC’ high efficiency condensing boiler range. They are the most compact boilers ever developed by Vaillant and in conjunction with a host of features, provide simple installation and servicing together with unrivalled siting flexibility.

There are three types of condensing boiler now available.

Combination boilers. A 'combi' boiler eliminates the need to store hot water so there is no hot water cylinder in the airing cupboard. (A small radiator can be installed in the airing cupboard so that the airing cupboard can still be used.) The boiler is both a high efficiency water heater and central heating boiler. It runs 'on demand' and provides hot water to the heating system in the house or flat.

System boilers are referred to as sealed system boilers because the system is filled to approx. 1 bar pressure and sealed. They are connected to a hot water storage cylinder, usually installed in the airing cupboard. This type of boiler does not need an expansion tank in the roof. They are particularly good for homes with more than one bathroom because the combination of boiler and hot water cylinder can deliver hot water quickly to several outlets simultaneously.

Open vent boilers. Open vent systems are normally connected to two tanks in the loft. A small 'feed and expansion tank' supplies water to the boiler and the radiators. A larger domestic cold water storage tank provides the cold water feed to an open vent hot water cylinder. Although replacing the boiler and linking it to an existing open vent system is an option, most people opt to remove the tanks from the loft and to install a sealed system boiler or a 'combi'.

Electrics. The electrical work will be carried out by an NIC EIC approved electrician. You will be issued with a certificate unless any faults are found on your existing electrics. These faults will have to be rectified, at extra cost, before a certificate can be issued.

Building Regulations. Gas Safe will be notified of new installations and a certificate will be sent to you from local building control.

Improve the efficiency of your boiler.

Cooke's Heating Ltd now offer Boiler Buddy a premium quality, in-line, high efficiency, magnetic filter that uses patented flux plates and a magnet to remove ferrous particles from system water. Boiler Buddy has been designed to ensure the collection of magnetite, rust and magnetic particles which are present in central heating systems and prevent potential component damage by erosion from circulating debris or deposition.

Improve the efficiency of your heating system.

Power-flushing, using a chemical additive, will ensure that your heating system will operate as efficiently as possible. Sludge build up in radiators, on a normal domestic heating system, can reduce their overall effectiveness by as much as 15%. Leaving an inhibitor in the system will also ensure that scale and sludge will not build up in the system again following the initial treatment.

The Sentinel Jetflush 4 Unit utilises a mechanical method of combining high and low pressure together with suitable chemical cleansers in order to clean and restore efficiency to dirty, problematic wet central heating systems.

We normally allow a day for a primary and secondary flush. All the radiators are flushed individually. Once with the chemical and once to dispose of the chemical and any dissolved debris.

LPG

Across the UK, 1.7 million homes are running 'off the grid' - located in rural, non-mains gas areas. Liquified petroleum gas (LPG) is becoming more popular, as it offers many of the benefits of mains gas. It produces less carbon than other non-mains-gas fuels and is also compatible with renewable heating and hot water solutions.

LPG's ability to liquify under modest pressure is one of the key characteristics distinguishing it from natural gas. When LPG vapour is liquified the volume occupied significantly reduces, making it easy to store and transport in specially constructed pressure vessels - either bulk storage pressure vessels situated above or below ground, or in gas cylinders / bottles.

It is now possible to use LPG for boilers, water heaters and other gas appliances such as fires and cookers. For homeowners one of the main benefits is that LPG provides a real flame which is a huge advantage for those wanting a real flame-effect fire and controllable cooking hob.

LPG solutions can also be used to supplement renewable hot water and heating solutions, such as solar power. There are also environmental benefits to LPG compared to oil as there are no risks of ground or water pollution. It also emits less carbon than any other fossil fuel available in rural areas.

Gas Appliance Safety

Carbon Monoxide (CO) poisoning from gas is caused by gas appliances and flues which have not been installed properly or have not been maintained properly.

When gas does not burn properly, excess CO is produced which is poisonous. You can not see it, taste it or smell it but CO can cause illness and death without warning.

You are at risk from CO poisoning if,

Your appliance was poorly installed,

Your appliance is not working properly,

Your appliance has not been checked for safety or regularly maintained by a Gas Safe registered engineer,

There isn't enough fresh air in the room,

Your chimney or flue is blocked.

Signs to look out for include,

Yellow or brown staining around or on appliances,

Pilot lights that frequently blow out,

Increased condensation inside windows,

Yellow rather than a blue flame, (apart from flueless fires).
